To his Excellency Beriah Magoffin Esq
Gov of Kentucky

Your humble Petitioner would respectfully represent that at the [ ] term of the Morgan Circuit Court he was fined Sixty dollars, that your Excellency did him the special favor on the 27^th March 1861 to respite the above fine -- the respite now being out the Sheriff is pressing your petitioner for the satisfaction of the fine which having been repleved and amounts to $92.35 cts charging interest from the 17^th day of May 1859 Your Petitioner would further state that he has no recollection of ever selling the whisky for which he was fined, that the witness who indicted him was hiis personal enemy and made the indictment as your petitioner believes through malice, He would further state that he is a poor farmer encumbered with the care of a large family, and if he is forced to pay this fine he will be reduced to almost poverty, Therefore he asks your excellency ^to^ remit the said fine and its interest, and relieve an humble citizen of this onerous debt that he
may be enabled to provide for his family and discharge that duty toward his country that is due from every citizen April 25^th 1862.
