To his Excellency Gov^r Magoffin

You undersigned petitioners would respectfully state to your Excellency that some three weeks since -- in the latter week of January 1862 John. W. Bruner of Irvine Kentucky was on a visit to his family relations in Winchester Kentucky and whilst there was rudely insulted & assaulted by one Proctor Dills of said latter place, and after Dills had drawn a heavy weight to strike Bruner with, he Bruner drew his pistol & made Dills lay down his weight. & thereby probably saved his life, Bruner immediately went to the Police Judge & confessed judgment for violation of the town law in drawing his Pistol & a fine of $10⁰⁰ was entered up against him in the Police Court of Winchester Kentucky, we beg your Excellency, under the circumstances attending the matter
to remit the fine against Bruner.
