Dear Sir

I heard the trial of L. D. King at the present term of this court for Killing Lackey — I was not of counsel — The ruling of the court compelled the verdict — It was clearly proven that Lackey insulted Kings wife most vulgarly & grossly and tried without violence to have intercouse with her — She informed King of this immediately & he under the excitment assaulted Lackey & with a stone struck him on the head & killed him — Kings wife proved a most excellent character. I feel that you ought to pardon King. I would do so unhesitatingly — I earnestly recommend his pardon
