Jno M Layson respectfully represents to his Excellency the Governor of Ky that on the [ ] day April 1861 he was tried in the Bourbon Circuit Court on an indictment for carrying concealed deadly weapons & fined $50 --

That prior to the finding on said indictment his life was threatened by a young man named Edward Current, with a shot gun in hand --

Having necessity to pass near the residence of said Current & having heard of other similar threats by him Your petitioner borrowed a pistol for his own personal protection, from B F Pullen Sheriff of said County & carried it for a short time for the above purpose -- It was for carrying this pistol & upon this occassion that he was indicted & fined -- No person was present when the difficulty occured between Current & himself -- Your petitioner therefore prays Your excellency in view of all the facts to remit said fine --

B F Pullen states that prior to Jno M Laysons being indicted for carrying concealed deadly weapons, he came to him & stated that he had purchased a negro from Matthew Current when he went for the negro, one of Currents sons came out with a gun & run -- him off threatening to shoot -- That as he was compelled to ^go^ ~~return~~ ~~home~~ by the road leading by Current's house he wanted to borrow a pistol to protect himself & therefore the undersigned bound him over, which he kept but a few days & then returned --
