Dear Sir

Our mutual friend Rufus Jenkins has been fined fifty dollars for selling spirotious liquors to a minor.

I can say, to you, that it is the universal opinion here that the fine ought to be remitted.

M^r Jenkins has been for several years the superintandat at "Redmans" Hotel. He has always, in my opinion, ^acted^ as a genlteman,

Hee has always endeavored to preserve order & to prevent any violations of the laws.

I do not believe that he had an idea that he was violating the law when he sold the spirituous liquors to the infant.

I believe that the remission of his fine would be received by the entire community here with pleasure:
