Madison County, Jan. 23, 1862.
To his Excellency,

Gov. B. Magoffin; Sir -- The undersigned petitioners, respectfully represent that M^r R. C. Forriss, of this county, having been fined at the September Term, 1860, of our Court, on a charge of gambling, and subsequently the facts in the case laid before your Excellency, upon which you Kindly granted a respite, we would now ask of you a full remission of the said fine. We make this request with the greater confidence as your Excellency has since remitted a similar fine imposed up M^r Aaron Horn, for the same offence, committed at the same time and in the same game for which M^r F. was fined.

As heretofore truly represented to you M^r F. is a poor, but industrious man, of good habits, having a large and dependant family to support by his own labor, a task of great difficulty in these "hard times." We further add that M^r F. has entirely refrained from gaming, or any other of=
fence that would render him amenable to the law. Under these circumstances we unite in urgently requesting your Excellency's interference for the relief of a deserving citizen from the aforesaid fine, which would bear very heavily upon him if compelled to pay.

All of which is submitted, which high consideration and wishes for your Excellency's health and happiness.
