This petitioner W^m Allen states that about the 11^th July 1861. being exasperated by a peremptory decision to leave the store house of one Elijah Patrick, who had employed James M^cGuire clerk (said demand being made by sd McGuire) he did on the date "above mentioned informed sd McGuire" he would leave "when he got ready", whereupon said McGuire did without reasonable cause strike said petitioner thereby disabling said Allen in the use of his left shoulder and wherefore a jury of twelve men summoned by Thos Whitaker D,, S,, for S Magoffin Co, did on the
10^th day of Aug 1861 fine this petitioner the sum of seventeen dollars and fifty cents -- exclusive of cost which in all amounted to thirty dollars, Now therefore I, ^the^ said W^m Allen do petition the Gov of Com^wlh of Kentucky that the unjust fine imposed by the verdict of said jury, be remitted -- it having been imposed by a jury whose political sentiments had been wrought to such a pitch, that they could not render an impartial verdict.
