Your petitioner George W. Murray states that some time about the 20^th of December last he was fined $15 before the police court of the town of Crab Orchard for an alledged breach of the peace committed in the following maner. One Granville Roberts and James Johnson got in to a fight. Roberts was intoxicted and Johnsan was beating him with a stick Roberts drew a bawie knife but Johnsan knocked it out of his hands with a stick and was proceeding to further beat him and your petitioner being present and not wishing to see the man unnecessarily beat up he picked up the knife and ordered Johnsan not to strike Roberts any more. I did not attempted to use the knife but threatened to do so if they did not cease beating Roberts and for this they arraigned him and fined him $15. and five days imprisionment. and imprisioned him five days in the ~~town~~ county Jail

Your petitioner thinks he did not commit any breach of the peace and thinks five days imprisionment sufficient punishment for all the offence he committed if any.
he is a single man, and poor and Just beginning in the world and indeavering to get his living by honest labor, and thinks it hard that he should pay the fine for nothing he thinks that if he had been tried by any other court he would not have been fined as he is advised all such fines go to the town. he says he is an orderly quiet man, And prays your Excellency to remit the fine
