your petitioners respectfully represent to your excellency that at the last May term of the owsley Circuit Court a fine was assessed by the verdict a Jury against Samuel A Chastain ~~upon~~ ~~the~~ under an indictment against him for carrying consealed a pistol $50 Your petitioners beg leave to represent that Chastain is an invalid ^(almost)^ from birth having but one leg a very crooked bad one at that and is bound to make his way through on sticks ~~this~~ a ~~short~~ ~~time~~ ~~previous~~ it is true he carried the pistol but it is also true that he had been violently assaulted on the street with abusive threatening and menacing language calculated to ~~put~~ greatly erritate Chastain if not enduce Just him in fear of bodily harm that it s ^so^ much erritated Chastain he fell into the failing of drinking too much and in this condition he exhibited the pistol they state he is a good orderly citizen. comonly and is not in the habit of Carrying weapons unnecessarily it is the desire of all who know him that the fine be remitted that it is certainly a case to warrant the interposition of your excellencys clemency
