To his Excellency Beriah Magoffin Governor of Kentucky:

The undersigned petitioners citizens and residents of Muhlenberg county would respectfully represent to your Excellency that they have learned that S. P. Love- who Stands Indicted in the Circuit court of this County on a charge of Manslaughter in Klling W. M. Little in the town of South Carrollton, in this County, in the year 1857 is about to apply for a pardon. they beg to join him in the prayer- they are aware that it is not usual to pardon before trial, but if any case ever justified it this does he has been under Indictment for near four years -- there has been two trials and in both the Jury was unable to agree.

Many of your petitioners have been witnesses in the case and they believe Love was reduced to the wretched necessity of Killing Little, being Killed by him or leaving the country -- the evidence given in the first trial certified to by the Clerk of our court will be laid before you which will justify this conclusion. M^r Love is a good citizen of but small means with a young and growing family dependant upon him for support and they think he ought not to be further held to devote all his time and means to defend himself against the prosecution but pray that he may be discharged by a pardon
