Greensburg Ky May [ ] 1861
To His Excellency Governor Magoffin
Sir

The Petition of William Wallace is herein respectfully inclosed to you. praying your Excellency to release him from the forfeiture of his bond as surety for the appearance of One Thomas Skaggs in the Green circuit Court at the Feby Term 1861 to answer a misdemeanor the Bond forfeited is $350.00 ^cts Under all the circumstances of the case, the Community here who know the facts concur in the opinion that this is a hard Case upon Wallace. no one, not even the prosecutor in the case, after the case had been Enquired into, believed that Skaggs was guilty, he was a poor friendless boy, no way connected with Wallace, and as a mere act of kindness and sympathy he went in this bond to release the Deft from imprisonment. and if Skaggs had really appeared in Court under his recognisance. it is supposed the prosecutor would have abandoned the case

Wallace is a good citizen. a poor man with a family on his hands who need all his help and means. the payment of this sum altho not large will break him up. and under the heavy money pressure now it will sweep what little property he has to discharge this debt

The Prosecutor himself will Join and concur in the Petition of Wallace. we Repsectfully ask release of said forfeiture. from your Excellency
and we are satisfied it would be approved and most heartily concurred in by this community and for which we all would feel Grateful and thankful to your Excellency
