To His Excellency
The Governor of Kentucky

Your Petitioner John Alexander would respectfully represent to your Excellency, that on the [ ] day of May 1860 he was fined or rather confessed Judgment before the Police Judge of the Town of Harrodsburg in the sum of $30 Twenty Dollars for an alleged Breach of the Peace. Your Petitioner on his oath expressly states that he was not guilty of the offence charged, that he struck nobody & fought nobody and made no attempt to fight -- that at the time the affair occured. he was unfortunately so much ~~much~~ intoxicated that he was not able to fight if he had have so desired, but was knocked down and severely beaten without any cause or provocation on his part, but not wishing an exposure by a public trial he confessed Judgment, believing that Your Excellency would do him Justice. He states that, said fine is not just and ought not to be paid, that he is poor and not able to pay it, In view therefore of the premises he asks Your Excellency to interpose and grant him that relief which the Justice and merits of his case demands.
