Respected sir

you will find herewith enclosed the petition of H. H. Lock and nathan Goldsmith to your Exelency to remit a fine against them for selling spirits to a miner. (The cases ^were^ tried at our present april term of the Hart equity & criminal Court) together with the petition of the jury who tried them, and also the letter of the prosecuting attorney, all of whom request that your Exelincy remit said fines for the reasons they have stated.

now we the undersigned practicing lawyers in the town of Munfordville, would state that we were present at said tryals and are personally aquainted with both H. H. Lock & Nathan Goldsmith. and that it is and was our opinion that there was no intention whatever on the part of either of them to violate the law in selling spirits to Cumpton who was the miner that bought of them the spirits. Mr. Cumpton was in his 21^st year Deputy Clerk of our Circuit & County courts and transacts the principal business of both offices, and a steady clever gentleman and to all appearance would scarcely ever be taken for a miner.

Mr. Lockand Mr. Goldsmith are both clever gentlemen and we think this case deserves executive Clemency and therefore recommend that their fines be remitted
