To His Excellency, Beriah Magoffin
Governor of Kentucky.

Your Petitioner George Walker. states that in the -- month of [ ] 1859. in the city Court of Louisville, he was fined six hundred dollars, for an assault and battery on --. He was not present at the trial & made no defense & believes that the Jury imposed this Ex Excessive fine against him, believing that, a certain other Walker, was the man, whom they were trying. In the year 1860. at the time of said court he was fined fifty dollars for an assault & batty, on --. In the year 1860, at the ~~term~~ -- term of said court he was fined fifty dollars for another assault & battery committed on -- Subsequently to the last fine, a Judgment was had against him on a scire facias on a forfeited bond, for his appearance in sd court to answer to said last Indictment & in the year 1860 at the -- term of sd court -- The said fines & costs altogether amount to $830.05_ a portion of which costs he has paid. He is a young man, and poor and unable to pay said fines. He is now confined in the city work house, on said fines, when he has been for some time. Your petitioner did not defend in any of said cases. He has appeared and answered to the Judgments aforesaid, and the forfeiture should be remitted He promises if your Excellency will remit said fines, that he never will ~~again~~ offend in like manner again. Whereupon he most respectfully asks your Excellency to remit & release him

We the undersigned respectfully unite, with the petitioner for a remission of the above mentioned fines
M^rs Walker the mother of the petitioner has been living here thirty odd years she is a widow, one other son who is afflicted with an incurable disease & this son is her reliance for support, she has applied to me to ask y^r Excellency to respite or remit George Walkers fines they are large, totally beyond their means to pay, she lives by her labor as seamstress & when he can he works at the business of house painter, they are very poor -- & have no property I make this application without knowing anything of the cases except what I have stated I am sir with great respect yr ob^t Servt

I know that the Petitioner Geo Walker is the son of a widowed mother who is poor & wholy unable to pay the fines. Neither has the petitioner property or means to pay said fines --
