To his Excellency
Beriah Magoffin Esq^r
Governor of Kentucky
Your Petition William Owens would respectfully represent.

That at the present February term of the Montgomery Circuit, he confessed Judgement, for the sum of Five hundred Dollars, on an Indictment for Gaming heretofore found against him in said Court; which said Judgement he has Replevied with good and approved security for the period of Three months in the office of said Court.

He saith that the indictment aforesaid, was gotten up against him as he verily believes, though the ill-will of Certain of his enemies, but not being aware of any valid legal defence which he could make thereto, he made the Confesssion of Judgement as aforestated.

He further saith that said Indictment was biased on his first offence of the kind in the said County & he has since then refrained from its repetition and expects to do so as he resides in another County of this state and very seldom visits here. He has no other or
further excuse to offer, and as the times have closed in so tight, and money is so hard to get hold of, ~~that~~ he feels impelled to ask your Excellency for the interposition of Executive clemency on his behalf, and a remission of so much of said Judgement and replevin bond, as may be on them the reach of Executive power
