To His Excellency Beriah MaGoffin
Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Your petitioner John Burrfin would most respectfully represent unto your Excellency that at the [ ] Term of the the Knox Circuit Court he was indicted for the offence of "selling liquor to a slave" and at the Sept Term 1859 he was tried and found guilty of said offence and a fine of $50, was assessed against him. He says that sometime since he petitioned your Excellency to remit said fine and that the same was respited on the 17" day of Sept 1859. for the Term of 8 months from the date thereof, He says that a true statement of the facts are fully set forth in his original petition to which your Excellency is most respectfully refered. He says that he has settled the cost which amounted to some $15 or $20 he says he is a poor man and has the cares of a widowed mother and family upon his hands. He says that mony is hard to get at least with him. and he does not believe
your Excellency wishes or intends that a poor man shall be harrased and his propety sacrifice, for the benefit of the Commonths when her coffers are full to overflowing. when she is able to pass through the great monetary crisies that is now ^in the land^ [...] and unmoved. He says that if he has the fine to pay it will cause a sacrifice of his propety and while thankfull for the favor received from your hands He earnestly ask a consideration of the premises and He prays that your Excellecy may extend to him the arm of your Executive Clemency and He prays a remission of the fine
