To Hon Beriah Magoffin

Your petitioner respectfully represents that in September last he gave his recanisance in the city court of Louisville as bail for W^m Cornelius in the sum of Three Hundred Dollars the said Cornelius failed to appear wherby his reconisance was forfieted Your petitioner states that he exerted himself to have the said Cornelius present on the day of his trial although he wrote & Telegraphed to Several ^Points^ he has eluded all diligence -- Your peititoner represents that he is a Young Man of limited Means & really unable to pay the full amount of forfeiture and he prays tharefore that You will favorably consider the recommendations below and if it be compatable with the high duties of Your official position that You will remit what of the said forfeiture remains after payment of Costs & city atty fees

At the Present November Term of the city Court of Louisville a Judgment was rendered against William M. Duncan on Scifas as Security for Cornelius Who has failed to appear & answer an Indictment in said court for $300 & costs. I Know M^r Duncan who is a worthy young man of this city & who I am Informed & beleive is true became the security of Cornelius Solely because they had been acquaintances in their youth, but Cornelius disregarding the obligation which Friendship Proposed deceived his Friend & leaves him to suffer for his good Intentions. -- I would be glad to see M^r Duncan releived as far as his case presents to your Excellency such grounds as calls for your Interference.
