Dear Sir:

I respectfully solicit, at your hands, the appointment of Commissioner of Deeds, &c., for your State, to reside in the City of Mobile, County of Mobile, State of Alabama.

I will mention in this connection, that I am now, and have been "Notary Public for said County and State, since the year 1838, being first commissioned by Arthur P. Bagby, Governor of this State; which office I have held ever since, and to the present date, the appointment having been regularly renewed by each successive Executive.

The last appointment was made by Hon. Lewis E. Parsons, Provisional Governor of this State, on the 26th day of July, 1865, for the term allowed by law, viz: three years.

I was also appointed (and held the appointment for many years) the Commissioner for your State, ^last renewal^ under date of May 2^d 1859 by Governor Charles S. Morehead ~~which reads~~, "~~during the pleasure of the Governor.~~" This commission became void in 1861, owing to the War. I enclose you my card, and am with respect,
