To his Excellency the Governor of Kentucky,

Your petitioner respectfully represents that he was indicted at the last February Term of the Fayette Circuit Court for assault and battery that he has been tried and found guilty and a fine of $100; and three months imprisonment assessed against him. While he admits the simple fact of having committed the offense charged he consider; the puneshment very severe, He says he is without money or friends and unless the fine and imprisonment is remitted he will have to stay in Jail for about 140 days. In order to avoid this disagreeable necessity, he proposes and promises ~~that~~ if he is released that he will join the U S. Army for three years or during the war, That he as always been a Union man, loyal to his government.
