To His Excellency, the Governor of Kentucky.

We the undersigned, citizens of Marshall County Ky, would respectfully represent, that at the June term of 1863 of the Marshall Circuit Court, one G. W. Irvin, then a practicing physician, and citizen of said county, was indicted in two cases, one for "maiming the cattle of another unlawfully" and the other for "unlawful injury to personal property" : and that our fellow citizen J. C. Gilbert, on the 28^th day of December 1863 became said Irvin's bail, in each case for $100. each, for his appearance - the said Irvin then being solvent and perfectly responsible and our friend Gilbert will have said bonds to pay, as they will be forfeited at the next term of our said Court, unless there is interposition and indulgence by the Executive

The said Irvin when there was no civil law in force, nor courts held, disposed of his property, and removed to the State of Illiniois, where he now is.

There is no chance for Gilbert to surrender Irvin, nor get indemnity.

We therefore, most respectfully and earnestly pray your Excellency's interposition for it will not screen the guilty, but will save and bless the innocent
