Dear, Sir the undersigned -- William Wiley and Morgand Mury citizens of Johnson County, State that at the June Term 1865 of the Johnson Circuit Court they was indicted for adultury -- And at the December Term 1865 of Said County Circuit Court they was fined as the record shows by defauld Twenty Dollars Each, they state that the are not Guilty of the charge in any way whatever and was [passed] at the Term of the Court at which Judgment went ~~to [...] themselves in [...] of~~ was prepared to defend the charge -- and came to the Court house to Defend the Same -- And was in and about the Court house -- and in wating to answer the Indictment upon its Calling, time that Judgment was rendered Against ^them^ and they never was
called to answer said charge -- and appeared on the next day still Expecting to [...] when Called -- and then Learned for the first time that Judgment had been rendered Against them the Day before -- by Default -- for Twenty Dollars Each by Default -- He states that he is an old Man -- and has always been obedient to Law and order and never wantonly violated its Precepts -- And he think it is verry hard, to fine him in his old Days for what he is not guilty of and that to without being herd in Defence -- He states he is Poor and not able -- to Seek redress, by appeal -- he therefore asks that he be herd -- by Executive Clemency that the fines be remitted -- and will ~~always~~ -- Always -- pray --
