To His Excellency Thomas E Bramlette
Governor of Kentucky:

Your Petitioner Edward Elston respectfully represents that he was fined the sum of Twenty five dollars and costs in the ~~Justices~~ Court of L. B. Cox Judge of the Fleming County Court for an alleged assault & battery and breach of the peace -- He states that the persons with whom the difficulty took place were imposing upon and attempting to wrong and oppress his brother in law who is an exceedingly small and feeble young man, really a dwarf -- and he came to the relief of his said brother in law, and defended him from the wrong attempted to be perpetrated on him -- The assault was really commenced by the other party But they it seems applied for a warrant & included both him and his brother in law in it -- and thus he was placed at the mercy of the
prosecuting witnesses and was deprived of the testimony of his brother in law, who would have relieved him of all blame. He had no interest in the matter, and was acting from sympathy and kindness of his feeble brother in law who was being wronged by the prosecuting witnesses -- Wherefore he respectfully asks that the Executive will interpose in his behalf & grant him a pardon from said judgment

James Strode says he is the brother in law of Edward Elston referred to above -- He is twenty five years old and weighs less than one hundred pounds -- and quite feeble -- The facts as stated by Elston above are true
but he was made a party and not permited to testify on the trial, and prosecuting witnesses had it all their own way. He hopes the Governor will pardon Mr Elston who only came to his assistance
