Tho E. Bramlette,
Governor of Kentucky.

Your petitioners state that at the November 1865 Term of the Magoffin Circuit Court a Judgment was rendered against the defendant in the case of the "Commonwealth of Kentucky vs Jno F. Patrick on charge of "Tippling House" for the sum & penalty of Sixty Dollars. The evidence was that the defendant had been a soldier in the Union Army -- That he had Just returned home from said Army, when a small gang & body of rebel Guerillas came by his home in Magoffin Co. Ky, and demanded some liquor. That he under fear gave them some as demanded.

That at the same time some citizens were present and some two or three also drank some for which they afterwards paid defendant Patrick. This was the only case of selling by him as shown by the proof.

We therefore ask Your Excellency to remit said fine and judgement of Sixty Dollars.

At the last term of the Magoffin Ct Court the above little case was tried & with the result above stated

The facts being as above set forth I hope Your Excellency will remit the fine: and for that purpose I have settled with the District atty. and have procured his "Scratch" as you will see. If the petition is granted I hope Mr Page will mail the Remission to me at this place and I will then send him his fee.
