To His Excellency Thos E. Bramlette Governor of the Commonwealth of the Kentucky

The undersigned Polly Estep your petitioner would respectfully state to your Honor that at the March term 1865 of the Pulaski Circuit Court she was indicted by the Grand Jury of Pulaski County for the offense of adultery and that at the Sept term 1865 of s'd court judgment for the sum $20 -- was taken against her by default; and state that she was not guilty of the offense charged in s'd indictment and she made no defense to same because she was informed and believed that the charge had to be proven before a judgt would be rendered and was satisfied and knew that no such proof could be made; and she further states that she is an unmarried woman and was at the time the offense was alleged to have been committed and as she is informed and believes could not be guilty of the offense charged. Under the foregoing circumstances your petitioner respectfully asks your Honor to remit the s'd fine of $20 --

I know Somethng of the circumstances under which the Judgement was obtained and I know that Miss Estep is poor and not able to pay the fine and no one wants to see her go to Jail I therefore Join in the petition for remitting the fine
