To His Excellency the Gov^r of Kentucky:

Y^r Petitioners beg Y^r Excellency to remit the fine of Jno. Daulton, of $50 -- imposed at the presnt Oct^rTerm of the Mason Circuit Court, & on the 5^th. Day of s^d Term, on an indictment for carrying concealed a deadly weapon.

John was a veteran of the 16^th Kentucky Regiment & served most gallantly during the War, & was honorably discharged when that noble Regiment was mustered out. He was desperately wounded at the battle of Franklin, while heroically doing his duty in that great field. Shortly after his return home, he was intoxicated & quarrelling, & in drawing ^from his pocket^ a small pistol presented to him by an Aunt, it went off & wounded M^r James Wornald, (the petitioner) & himself --

He expressed his regret & sorrow to M^r Wornald, & is well behaved when sober. He is poor & unable to pay a fine & on these grounds, & his past faithful & gallant service, as a soldier we ask a remission of the fine: having reason to believe he did not know the law, & will now, no longer carry the pistol
