To His Excellency:
The Governor of Ky.

Your petitioner ^Felix F. Edwards^ would respectfully state to your excellency that he is indicted in the Fleming Circuit Court for the alleged offence of Robbery ^of $100.00^ Your Petitioner was at the time of the alleged offence in Summer of 1862 but 14 years of age (will only be 717 the 27 Decr next) -- The offence was Committed by a party of H. Marshalls men under Harry Hawkins of the 5^th Ky Infantry (Rebel Your Petitioner had been sent to slate in Bath County on business by his father and on his return was overtaken near Hillsborough by this party under said Hawkins & in passing from there on to Flemingsburg & to maysville on their Raid they passed the house of Mr. Ed. Pearce where the alleged offence was committed, they had pressed this petitioner into their service & detained him for fear he would give news of their coming, & they also plied him freely with liquor, He had no gun with him, & done all he could to prevent any of them from doing any harm and he was merely with them by the mere actcident, & detained by them against his will & consent, and
^for the same^ was arrested, & sent to Lexington & then tried by the military authority and acquitted, and never was in the rebel Service, and dont know what mischief, if any was done by said party of rebels while so, at the residence, or, upon the premises of Said Ed. E Pearce and So far as he was there, ^(he was^ under duress, and, only there from the potency of the rebel pBayonnets, and in heart & soul, had no design, or intent to cooperate with said party, of rebel soldiery, & done nothing from the time they overtook him, between Slate & Hillsborough, till he ~~[...]~~Escaped ^from^ them, but as he was compelled to do it by them, But, being thus caught (by accident &c) in bad Company he has been unjustly so indicted -- is under bail -- But desires to go West this fall to mo. or Ills. & try and make a farmer & good Citizen of himself & does not wish to be delayed by said prosecution, which will prejudice him with costs, as well as unnecessary costs to the Commonwealth he will appear herewith affidavits &c. on his behalf, and prays the clemency of your excellency Hoping you will at once grant
him a pardon & permit him to retrieve himself & have a fair start as a young man in the world -- and, he assures you with all his heart, you nor those who shall thus befriend him shall ever have Cause to regret it.
