To his Excellency --
The Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your Petitioner Malvinia Spencer would respectfully represent to your Excellency That, at the Sept 1865 of the Gallatin Circuit Court A Judgment was rendered in favor of the Commonwealth. and against your Petitioner for the Sum of $[ ] for assalt and Battery. your Petitioner would further represent that Said Judgment was rendered by defalt your Petitioner not remembering the day it was Set for trial. If She had been presant She could and would have offered evidence (thou guilty) in Extenuation, which would have materially reduced the Judgment If not entirely prevented one. I Youre Petitioner would further represent that She is a very poor woman, the wife of the vilage Barber, with a family. and if required to pay so (to her) large a fine, her family must Seriously feal the aeffects of the loss (if indeed she is able to pay the Same atall.) her numerous relitives are all very poor. and She cannot look to them for the Slightest pecuniary assistance. She further Says the offence for which She was so fined, grew out of a political contriversy between an other lady and her self. in which said contriversy very abusive and insulting language was used towards your petitioner So much so, that in an ungarded moment She did commit the offence by threatening and maenacing the other, but in no other way what ever

Wherefore She prays your Excelency to remit the Same, and if not the whole amount then Such other and partial relief As your
Excellency may deem Just and Expedient, and your Petitioner as in duty bound ~~for~~ ever &c
