To His Excellency Thomas E Bramlette Governor of the commonwealth of Kentucky your Petitioner Calvin Vaughn would most respectfully Represent unto your Excellency that at the September Term of the Knox Circuit Court 1865 He was fined fifty dollars for Selling Liquor to a miner He says that it is true as he supposes that he Sold a pint of Spirits to a young man by the name of Bryant who as it turned out was not twenty one years of age at the time of selling to him but your Petitioner was not at the time aware of the fact as ^that^ said Bryant was not of age as he had been transacting business for Several years on his own account But says if he had known that He was under age he did not at the time know that it was a violation of law to sell to a minor He further States that the sale was made during the rebelion & during the siege of Knoxville He says that he is a reffugee from Tennesee and knew but little of the laws of Ky That He is a law abiding Citizen
a very poor man ^having a family to support^ and if He had known that said Bryant was under twenty one years of age and that it was Contrary to law to sell to such he would not have done so under any circumstances He promises not to be guilty of further violations of law and not to trouble your Excellency for the remission of an other fine

The premises considered the prayer of your Petitioner is that you remit said fine for which he will ever feel griatified
