To his Excellency Thomas E. Bramlette, Governor of Kentucky,

The petitioner Thomas Earles and William Haley ~~the first~~ citizens of Pendleton County Ky. ~~until~~ ~~recently~~ ~~until~~ ~~recently,~~ ~~but~~ ~~now~~ ~~resides~~ in ~~Harrison~~ ~~County~~ Ky, & ~~now~~ ~~the~~ ~~line~~ ~~between~~ ~~said~~ ~~Counties~~ Would respectfully represent to your Excellency, that on the 26^th day of April 1864, being during the April Term of the Pendleton Circuit Court, a judgment was rendered against them as bail for ^$500. for^ a certain A. Earles who was indicted by the grand jury of Pendleton County for cutting a certain Wm. A Pettitt with the malicious intent to Kill, After the execution of the bail bond, said Earles left for parts unknown, The bond was forfeited, and those petitioning were induced by certain representations to enter their appearance and to permit judgment to go against them. There are two other sureties on the bond, viz; Jonathan Earles and William Earles who are wholly insolvent, and against whom no judgment has been rendered.

They further state that they are poor men and of limitted pecuniary means; that execution has been issued on said judgement, and is now in the hands of the sheriff of Pendleton County who is taking steps to collection the ^whole^ judgment unless, ~~unless~~ such part of it as can be constitutional remitted, is speedily done by your Excellency. They would further state that the person assualted recovered from his wounds without difficulty, All of which is respectfully submitted.
