Your petitioner begs leave to represent to your Excellency that at the last June Special Term of the Adair Circuit Court in the year 1865 Judgment was rendered against him for fines on 4 Indictments of the Grand Jury N^os 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- [&] 5 -- the amount in aggregate was $84 ^fines and $50,,55 costs^ -- as follows
N^o 1. for Sellling liquor to Soldiers on trial by Jury -- Judgt for $14,, fine & $16.80 cts costs
N^o 2 for Same offense trial by Jury Judgment for $10. fine & $15,,75 ct costs
N^o 3. ^same offense^ Judgment by Default or Confession for $10. fine & $9. costs,
N^o 5. for Selling liquor to Slave Judgment by Default or Confession for $50. fine & $9. costs

Now your petitioner states that the two first cases he defended but the two last he did not defend in order to Save Costs -- And wishing to appeal to your Clemency as executive in all four of the Cases -- Your petitioner is very poorly able to pay the whole of Said fines and costs he thinks the Number of fines & heavy costs oppressive -- Your petitioner has no longer any connection with the liquor traffic & never expects to again and if relieved from the
Said fines to the extent of your power will by hard effort be enabled to pay the Commths attorneys 30 pr ct & the Costs and make a Support for his wife & ~~children~~ family Your petitioner therefore humbly asks your excellency for Such relief as you think proper to grant --
