against } Indictment March Term 1863
Jason Ladd

The Grand Jury of Christian County, in the name, and by the authority of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: accuse Jason Ladd of the offense of taking up and selling a stray mule within less time than two years --

Committed as follows viz: -- The Said Jason Ladd on the 10^th day of October 1862 in the County aforesaid, he being the taker up of a stray mule He the said Jason Ladd within less time than one year from the term aforesaid, did wilfully and unlawfully sell said stray mule ^aforesaid^ to John M Timmons at the summ of thirty Dollars and within one year as aforesaid against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

And afterwards, to wit, on the 23^rdday of September 1863. at a court continued and held for the aforesaid Circuit

"The Comlths atty appeared, and the Defendant not appearing, although duly summoned, a Plea of 'Not Guilty as charged' is entered by the Court for him, and the following Jury were sworn to try the issue, viz: P T Owen, Pink Sheritt Jas A Radford, J Mealey, Jas A Witly, Frank Cayce, E J Roberts Jas Armstrong, J N Stewart, Jno Stiles, J D Babbitt, & L Bell and the
evidence being heard, the Jury returned the following verdict, to wit: 'We of the Jury find the Defendant guilty Jno Stiles foreman' -- It is therefore considered that the Defendant is guilty as charged in the indictment, and that he make to the Commonwealth his fine for said offense by the payment of Fifty Dollars and the costs of this prosecution
