Greenup Circuit Court

On motion of the Commonwealth's attorney a Jury was ordered to be empannelled and sworn to inquire into the state of mind of James Middaugh Jr. the personal presence of James Middaugh Jr in Court was dispensed with on the Investigation it being legally proven in Court by D^r Moore a Physician and others, that they have personally examined the said Middaugh and that they verily believe him to be a Lunatic and that his condition is such that it would be unsafe to bring him into said Court, that he is a raving Maniac and unmanagable and dangerous and thereupon came a Jury, viz.
Reuben Thompson, Lewis Hall, O. N. Jones, John S. Hunt, Alex Patton, John Archey, Eli Cooper, Robert M^cAllister, O. F. M^cKoy, John Bagby, Samuel Parnell and Charles Callihan
who being duly sworn according to law after hearing the evidence and a charge from the Court returned the following verdict:

'We the Jury find James Widdaugh Jr whom we have in charge a Lunatic, he has lost his mind since his birth. We cannot say from the evidence the cause of it unless it be over excitement and exposure. He is not given to
intoxication. He was born, and has always resided in this County. He has no estate in possession, reverzion or remainder: his parents are alive and live in this County and they have not estate sufficient to support him; he is 22 years old last January. He is incapable of laboring in whole or in part for his support. He first manifested signs of insanity about six weeks or two months ago, and for about two weeks he has been a raving maniac, very troublesome unmanageable and dangerous

Wherefore it is adjudged by the Court that the said James Middaugh Jr. is a Lunatic and that the other facts found by the Jury in their verdict are true, and that he be taken to the Lunatic Asylum and Andrew O"Neal is appointed a Committee to take him to said Asylum, He shall be taken to said Asylum immediately the safety of said Lunatic and others requiring it. It is hereby certified upon the proof as part of this order. that the date of his first attack of lunacy was about six weeks or two months ago
