To His Excellency
gov. Bramlett

J. K. Edwards, says that at the present term of the Fayette Circuit court he was indicted for dealing Faro & has confessed Judgment. The facts are these. He was present in a room where Faro had been dealt, in the room of Mr. White, He simply took up the cards & for amusement dealt a few hands at five cents. There was not two Dollars bet won or lost. He says that he never before or after dealt faro & realy knows nothing about it & is not & never was & never will be a faro dealer. He is not addicted to such practices & wais not & never was a gambler in any way -- He asks as Justice & mercy to be released from this unfortunate scrape on his part innocently entered into.

personally appeared before Me a Justice of the Peace for the County & State aforesaid the Affiant W^m F White and states that he was present sometime in the month of December 1864, in a room in Lexington at which time J K Edwards. was dealing cards from a faro Box. and at the same time were one or two persons putting down or betting Checks of the value of five cents not more I am Certain that there was not five Dollars win or lost and on the Part of Edwards' done merely for passtime as he Edwards. is no faro dealer. the apperatus not his but some other Persons. March 3^rd 1865
