Jacob Medard
Jefferson Circuit Court,
January term, A. D. 1864.

The Grand Jurors of the County of Jefferson in the name and by the authority of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, accuse Jacob Medard of the crime of Murder committed in the manner and form as follows, to=wit: The said Jacob Medard in the said County of Jefferson on the 8^th day of January A. D. 1864 did wilfully, wickedly unlawfully, feloniously & of his malice aforethought, kill & murder Philip Medard by exposing him the said Philip Medard to the cold & intensely Severe weather & by refusing food & clothing & sustenance to the said Philip Medard from which exposure & starvation the said Philip Medard did die, the said Philip being of great age & infirm & in poverty & in distress & incapable of taking care of & providing for himself & being the father of said Jacob Medard who was by legally bound to provide for & nourish his father in such distress -- the said Jacob did confine & Starve his said father in an out house & kitchen & did starve & freeze him the said Philip by refusing to provide meat & food & clothing for him, & by thus exposing him to the weather he the said Jacob being legally bound to cherish, protect & provide for the said Philip Medard his father. contrary to the form of the statute in such cases, made and provided & against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
