To His Excellency
The Gov of Ky.

Your petitioner Ja^s F Hall showeth, that he has been indicted in the Kenton Circuit court for carrying concealed weapons, He is a young man, living at home in the city of Covington, with his widowed mother, He is employed in a Telegraph office in Cincinnati & his engagement is such that he has to remain at the Telegraph office until 12 oclk at night & then cross the river to covington, his home, He thus thought he was in danger of personal violence from such characters as frequent ~~thou~~ thoroughfares & lay in wait for passersby, For his protection he procured & carried a pistol, & it was for carrying that pistol he was indicted, He had not the time to enquire about his rights, &
to await a trial, & without employing an atty he went into open court & plead guilty & there was rendered against him a Judgt for $50 ⁰⁰/₁₀₀ & costs,

His mother has six children He is the eldest son, & doing all he can to aid them, & thus far all have goten along well,

The premises considered your petitioner asks that the fine be remitted &c

I was acting on Judgt when Jas F Hall came into court & plead guilty, & I rendered Judgment against him, He did it in the simple manner he has related. He made no statement except that he desired to get along with the matter in the shortest & least expensive manner, I have no doubt that all he says in his petition is true, I am told by those who know what they say to be true, that
Mr Hall is a young man of fine character, & well deserving of Executive clemency, I trust the fine will be remitted,

I have been acting as Atty for Com at the Sep Term 1864 of Kenton circuit court, I concur with foregoing request that the fine of J F Hall be remitted,

We know J F Hall well & know him to be an exemplary young man, & proving himself a worthy son of a widowed mother by employing his time diligently for her & the support of her family, He is worthy of all credence, & we unite in his request that the fine be remited,
