To his Excellency Tho^s E Bramlette
Governor of Kentucky

Your petitioner Tho^s Perkins would respectfully represent. That at the February term of the Garrard Circuit Court 1864 he was fined $50= & costs upon a charge of having carried concealed upon his person a deadly weapon, to wit: a Pistol

Now Your petitioner admits, he carried at that time, a Pistol, as he then believed and now believes he had a right to do so, as his personal safety was endangered and he carried the same in self-defence,

Your petitioner did not make any defence, to the said case, as he was mistaken about the time the trial came off, He had good defence and would have made it but for the reason above given

Your petitioner would shown unto your Excellency that he was a soldier in Captain Isaac Singletons Compay in Col Bristows Regt, and served his time out and made a soldier that was not complained of

Your Petitioner would State that he is a young man and very poor, that his Father and mother are both dead and have been for years. & he has not had the chance in this life that many young men have had for information

Your petitioner states in good faith that he intends in future to observe the laws of the land, and good order, and he will do his best to comply with the same

Under this state of case your petitioner
respectfully asks, your excellency to remit said fine and pledges himself not to call upon your excellency for any other relief

We whose names are annexed, say, that we are acquainted with the above petitioner and from our own Knowledge of him and the facts of this case, we respectfully ask the Governor of Kentucky to remit said fine
