To His Excellency Thomas E Bramlett. The Governor of the State of Kentucky

Your Petitioner the undersigned would respectfully represent and Show to your Excellency: That He was indicted in the City Court of Louisville, under the Statute against Gaming, for permitting a game of chance to be played in a house under his control and with his consent on the 12^th day of November 1863: The petitioner states that the case was called and continued for Several Terms the Witnesses relied upon by the State to prove the charge, failing to answer: and finally at the last March Term of the said Court on the 7^th day of March 1864: The witnesses for the state still not appearing your Petitioner confessed a Judgments: Your Petitioner states that in point of the facts the charge in the Indictment could not have been sustained if his consent was necessary to be shown for on the day mentioned in said Indictment that his consent was ^not^ asked or obtained ~~nor did~~ He know anything about it; Your Petitioner states that He will be compelled to pay the costs in the case; which is very heavy upon him; and He is unable to pay the Fine He prays your Excellency to interpose your Executive clemency and remit the fine to him and He will ever pray &c

The gentlemen who have signed this petition are well known ~~citizens~~ ^neighbors^ of Mr Stickrod. Mr Stickrod confessed the charge, of gaming in his house, upon one occasion but I am satisfied that he is not in the habit of permitting such uses of his house & ask that he have a respite.
