To His Excellency Thos E Bramlette
Governor of Kentucky your petitioners John Roley and W P Downs would state that at the present March term of the Ohio Circuit Court they were found guilty each of Keeping a Tippling house.

They would state this that they were selling goods ware and merchandise in a very small way and listed with Jacob Leach Federal assessor of Ohio County for license and procurred license from W H Miller Deputy Collector for the Government ^also License from the County Court Clerk of this County^ and thought by virtue of the authority that they had the right to sell and did in any quantity to suit purchases. They believe from what the assessor said they had the right to sell and did sell publicly -- The sheriff of the county and others thought they had the right to sell -- So soon as they learned that they had no right under this license to sell, they quit di[speresed] and are ~~not~~ now engaged in farming -- They pray for Executive Clemency & would state thay they are very poor men --
