To his Excellency, Thos E. Bramlette, Governor of Kentucky

The petition of Charles Eaves, and M. D. Hay, of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, who respectfully shew to your Excellency -- That a judgment was rendered against them in the Muhlenberg Circuit Court, on the 13^th day of May, 1861, in favor of the Commonwealth, for two hundred dollars, & costs, on forfeited recognizance, entered into by them in said Court, as the bail of Edward Hartman, ~~on the~~ 14~~^th~~ ~~day of November 1860~~ on the 16^th day of May, 1860, for the appearance of said Hartman in said court on the second day of its next term, to answer an Indictment against him for permitting gaming in his house. That said Hartman failed to appear at the next term, having left the State, without ~~the knowledge of your~~ any connivance on the part of your petitioners. That said Hartman at the date of said recognizance resided in the town of Greenville, Ky, and pledged his word to your petitioners not to leave the stat, and to appear in discharge of his recognizance at the next term of the Court. That your petitioners have received information, which they believe to be true, that said Hartman removed to the State of ~~Missouri~~ ^Iowa^, and then enlisted as a Soldier in the Volunteer services of the United States, and was killed in battle at the battle of ~~Wilsons creek~~ ^Shilo^. ~~That said prosecution against Hartman has been tried.~~ Wherefore, as your petitioners are poor and have families to support, they respectfully ask your Excellency to remit said Judgment on said forfeited recognizance
