To his Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky your petition the undersigned John Tankesly would respectfully represent that at the present March Term of the Laurel Circuit Court he plead guilty to an Indictment heretofore found in said court against him for retailing Liquor and was fined by said court the sum of $20.00

He states that the facts in the case are simply as follows he was carrying a canteen of Spirits for a neighbor and meeting with some two or three of his acquantances they insisted on his selling them some of it. he at first refused to do so but finally let them have a glass full of said Liquor they insisted on his taking the money and giving it to the owner of said liquor. he done so without however any mention of violating the laws. but being advised that his so doing amounted to a violation of law he did not chose to make any defence but to plead guilty.

He respectfully asks your excellency to grant him such relief as may seem proper in his case

The undersigned citizens of Laurel County Kentucky are well acquainted with John Tankesly we know him to be an Industrious law abiding citizen- a poor man with with a family dependant upon his labor for a support and we would respectfully ask your Excellency to remit the fine assessed against him as stated in the foregoin petition
