Gov. State of Kentucky

Your petitioner, William Sams States that one Tho^s L. Owens was arrested in Carrol County Ky, in the fall of 1860 or 1861, for passing Counterfeit money. And that he, your petitioner, went security of four hundred dollars on the bond of the said Owens for his appearance to the next term of the Carrol Circuit Court. And at the time of the session of the said Court, the said Owens was confined in the Jefferson County Jail at Louisville Ky, And that your petitioner obtained a bench warrant for the appearance of the said Owens at the said Carrol Court, but at the same time, and before the said warrant could be served, the said Owens obtain bail from the Jefferson County Jail and made his escape. And your petitioner following him up, finally caught and brought to trial said Owens in the Carrol Circuit Court when the ^case^ was ~~acquitted~~,^dismissed by the comwealths attorney,^ but not until after the forfeiture of the bond on which your petitioner is security. And he now prays your Excellency to remit the fine caused by the forfeiture of the said bond by the non-appearance of the said Owens to the said term of the Carrol Court
for which the bond for appearance was given.
