Charles Wicke & Andrew Straus

Charles Wicke had an examination on a charge of Felony in the city Court of Louisville, was held to answer, and on the 29 day of Sept 1855. ~~was held to ans~~ he entered into a reconizance in the sum of $800, with Andrew Straus as his Surety in a like Sum.

On the 20^th of December 1855 the reconizance ~~and~~ was forfeited as follows.
viz:

"This day came the commonwealth by her attorney and the Defendent being Solemly called to appear in discharge of this reconizance entered into by him in the City court of Louisville on the 29^th day of Sept. 1855. with Andrew Straus his bail in the Sum of eight hundred dollars each, came not, but made default. It is therefore ordered that the clerk of this Court issue writs of Scirefacias Severally against the Said Charles Wicke and Andrew Straus his bail, returnable to the
next term of this court commanding them to appear and Shew cause if any they have or can why the Said Commonwealth Shall not have Judgment and Execution thereon against them for the Sum of one thousand dollars each according to the form and effect of Said reconizance, and for a breach of the condition thereof. And then on the Plaintiff's motion a capias is awarded herein against the Defendent returnable &c; which capias is ordered to be endorsed, that Defendent may, upon the execution thereof enter into reconizance himself in the Sum of eight hundred dollars, with good and Sufficient bail in the like Sum conditioned for his personal appearance according to the command of Said capias. And all further proceedings are continued until the next term of this court." ~~Oct~~

The case was continue a few terms and then was droped informally from the docket.

On the 14^th day of Oct. 1863. a Scirefacias issued against Defendents Wicke and Andrew Straus as follows. viz.

"The Commonwealth of Kentucky
To the Sheriff of Jefferson County.

You are commanded to Summon Charles Wicke, together with Andrew Straus his bail to appear before the Judge of the Jefferson Circuit court, at the court house in the city of Louisville on the first day of ~~Jefferson~~ the October term of Said court, to Shew cause if any they have or can why the Commonwealth Shall not have Judgment and execution against them for eight hundred dollars each by reason of the forfeiture of a reconizance entered into by them in the city court of Louisville on the 29^th day of September 1855. And have then and there this writ.

Witness James P Chambers clerk of Said court, at the court house aforesaid this 14^th day of October 1863."
