The undersigned, having been appointed by the Governor, under the 5^th Section of Article 2 Chapter 101 Revised Statues, to state the accounts of James H. Garrard late Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, with the commonwealth, to ascertain the amount of public funds on hand; to make a true and perfect inventory thereof and take the receipt of the newly appointed Treasurer, M. P. Brown Esq. beg leave to make their Statement and report as follows towit:

Jame H. Garrard late Treasurer died on Sunday the 13^th of August 1865: Saturday the 12^th was his last official day of business.

On the 12^th of August 1865, at the close of the business of that day, we find James H. Garrard Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, chargable with the following sums of money, viz;

Revenue Department	$207.952-98
Sinking Fund Proper	273.898-72
School Fund Proper	76.429-76
Making a total of --	$558281-46

(say five hundred and fifty eight thousand two hundred and eighty one dollars and forty six cents)

In ascirtaining the amount of public funds on hand, we examined the Branch Bank of Kentucky at Frankfort, where the Treasurer
keeps his deposits of the public funds, and also we examined the Treaurers safe in his office -- We found no funds in the safe. We found standing to the credit of James H. Garrard Treasurer of the Com^th of Kentucky on the books of said Branch Bank the sums of $565.834-04

And we found upon examination of the Treasurers Bank Book that he had previous to the close of the 12^th of August 1865, drawn and delivered checks upon the funds in Said Branch Bank which are still outstanding, not paid to the amount of 7.552-58

A list of which unpaid checks we have caused to be made and herewith present as part of this report.

Leaving as will be seen, the same amount with which we find the late Treasurer chargeable, to be transferred to the incoming Treasurer viz= $558.281.46

Which transfer has been made and we herewith report the receipt of the newly appointed Treasurer therefor. Which will leave in deposit as aforesaid said sum of= $7.552.58
to the credit of James H Garrard. Is to much said outstanding checks.
