The Legislature of Kentucky at its recent session passed an Act directing this Office to prepare the Kentucky state account for examination in Your Office.

You informed me in November last that before the account would be taken up for settlement the proper abstracts and classifications of the vouchers would have to be made. Your letters I submitted through the Governor of the State to the Legislature of Ky. upon which the act above alluded to, was based.

The Governor writes me under date of March 29^th in reply to my letter to him for instructions on this subject he says "I understand from the Qr. Mr. Gen^l (of the state) that no abstracts are necessary beyond those sent from his Office, and that all the evidence required has to be gotten up here (in Frankfort) and not in Washington. There will therefore be no necessity for the services required by
the 9^th section of the Act &c."

The 9^th section alluded to required me to make the abstracts and prepare the account for settlement.

I have the honor now to request of you a specific statement of what is required to prepare the Kentucky state account for examination in Your Office and whether the account will be examined until it is thus prepared? and whether your requirements can be complied with in the absence of the vouchers?
