The undersigned begs leave to report to your Excellency that the arrests made by the State Police under his control for the month ending Jan 12^th 1864 were as follows

Deserters from the U. S. Army	24
Returned Rebels	4
Escaped convict Ind state Prison	1
Total number of arrests	29

No of men actually Employed	11

Total amt of wages paid to Jan 12^th 1864	$750.⁰⁰

A lack of horses for scouting purposes is the only excuse I can offer for the small number of Deserters arrested.
