THANKSGIVING PROCLAMATION

{THE GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF
ALL FOR OUR COUNTRY
NEVADA.}

By His Excellency, H. G. Blasdel, Governor of Nevada.

WHEREAS, It has become a well established and commendable custom of the people of the several States comprising the Federal Union, once at least during each year, to unite in public thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God for His merciful kindness and His preserving care over us as a people; and,

WHEREAS, During the present year our nation has been signally blessed in its preservation, in the ability and faithfulness of its rulers; in the restoratiion of peace throughout its length and breadth; in the establishment of universal freedom; in the reward of honest industry; in the abundant yield of our agriculture, manufactures and mines; and in the advancement of all that leads to greatness, peace and general prosperity.

THEREFORE, In pursuance of the aforesaid custom, and of the Proclamation of ANDREW JOHNSON, President of the United States, I do hereby appoint and proclaim
THURSDAY, the 7th day of December next,
As a day on which the people of Nevada may and ought to join with those of her sister States in PUBLIC THANKSGIVING to our Common Benefactor.

Let that day be observed throughout the State by appropriate exercies in all our churches, by social festivities, and everywhere, by manifestations of profoundest gratitude, for though, during the year we have lost and continue to mourn the death of our late beloved President, ABRAHAM LINCOLN, yet no occasion since our national career began, has afforded so great cause to acknowledge the guidance and protection of our Heavenly Father as does the present.

Then let our hearts well up with praise for all the good our land enjoys, and our hands appropriately provide for the destitute, suffering and unfortunate among us.
