The Commonwealth of Kentucky Plaintiff
Against } Indictment
James. C. Brookover. Defendant

The Defendant appeared in open Court and plead not guilty to the Indictment herein.

By agreement of parties the law and facts herein are submitted to the Court. and the parties being fully heard and the court being sufficiently advised adjudges that the Plaintiff recover of the Defendant the sum of Fifty Dollars. and also her costs herein expended.

On motion of Plaintiff. it is ordered that the Defendant pay or replevy said fine. whereupon the Defendant and T. C. Campbell as surety appeared and replevied the same.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky
Against } Indictment
James. C. Brookover.

The Grand Jury of Mason County in the name and by the authority of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, accuse James. C. Brookover
of the offense of selling spiritous liquor to Slaves committed as follows: -- The Said James. C. Brookover on the 15^th day of July 1861. at the county aforesaid. did sell spirituous liquor to certain Slaves. whose names are unknown to the Grand Jury. belonging to persons whose names are unknown to the Grand Jury. he at the time not having the rightful care and custody of said slaves. or either of them. and not have the written order of the owner or owners of said slaves. or either of them. or of the person or persons entitled to the custody and care of said slaves to provide them or either of them with said liquor. against the peace and dignity of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
