Places
The Civil War touched every corner of Kentucky. From rural communities to crowded city streets. Civil War Governors of Kentucky (CWGK) staff have created informational entries to help users understand the massive scale and intersections of the conflict at a variety of levels.
About the Places
As Kentuckians identify deeply with their home counties, CWGK has prioritized providing demographic and political information about each of Kentucky’s 110 counties (at the time of the Civil War). This includes information about population, voting records in the 1860 and 1864 Presidential Elections, the 1863 Gubernatorial Election, and political representatives.
CWGK staff have also created entries for states, towns, and countries as appropriate.
Like other annotated biographies, these “place” entries are not exhaustive and should serve as a jumping off point for more discovery. In addition to these mapped places, you can go to our document search and search for the names of places we have yet to annotate.
