Thomas E Bramlitte
Governor of Kentucky

Your petitioner A. B. Culton a citizen of Harlan County Kentucky has recruited a Company for the 49^th Regt Ky Infy Vols. he done so without having a commission as a recruiting officer. At the time that he commenced recruiting his Company (Viz on the 1^st of June 1863) there was no mail communication any where near where he lived and that he did not know that ^it^ was necessary to have such commission, he recruited the company in good faith. and has at this time sixty one men at this Camp. and has several others recruited who have not yet reported. We the undersigned request your Excellency to grant M^r Culton a Commission as 2^nd Lieut dated from the 1^st of June 1863 in order that he may receive pay for the service he has rendered in recruiting
