Dear Sir

The undersigned would Respectfully State, that in May last we Elected Justices of the Peace &c for this county, and in this the first District James A Middleton & Wm H Hamilton were Elected & Commissioned — We have no Knowledge of Hamilton ever having qualified, Middleton having done so: but he has volunteered & is now a Captian in the 27th Ky Vol. under Col Spalding, and our District is left without any Justice of the peace in it, which is very inconvienent to the community — In view of the premises we would recommened Samuel Allen as suitable person to fill the vacancy — he having Served in that capacity for ten years or more — Under the circumstances if you will appoint Mr Allen it will confer a great favor on the citizens & the undersigned
